Geocaching Trip to Niobrara State Park

In the middle of a town called Winnetoon just southeast of Niobrara.

What kind of flowers are these?

It is like pioneer village with lots of old style buildings

There was a geocache in one of these outhouses.

Mary wanted Megan to see this moonflower.
There were just opening for the night when we got there.

Some building were real and some were fake fronts.

Pictures are out of order as usual.  This was at our motel in Niobrara.

At the Hilltop Lodge Motel in Niobrara.

Saturday morning geocaching in the countryside.

We were the first to find this geocache recently placed
in Butte, Nebraska.

The new geocache was on the basketball frame at this school.

Mary found another one.

A geocache at this sign directing us to the Ashfall
fossil beds.

At the Ashfall Fossil Beds visitor center.

We needed this picture to complete a geocache.

The Rhino Barn at Ashfall.  Covering the dig site.

An intern digging up fossils.

Four flat screens with cameras on the current diggings.

The rhino bones that have been discovered so far.

Mary looking at the bones.

Very large building over the dig site.

Another intern working on micro bones.

A kid friendly building with exhibits.

Our room at the Whitetail River Lodge Bed and Breakfast
just south of Niobrara.

We stayed in the same room that Mike Johanns stayed in.

The common room.

The view of Niobrara State Park from our deck.

Old Saloon in Niobrara.

Bridge to South Dakota just two miles east of town.

The Missouri River

View from the South Dakota side.

Of course there was a geocache there.

Coordinates for the next stage of the geocache.

In the town of Springfield South Dakota.

We couldn't find the geocache that was supposed to be here.
Missouri River in the background.

We did find quite a few.

Landslide area at Niobrara State Park.

Fake rock geocache in the park.

Tricky geocache container.

Strange geocache container.

Strange fake tree across from where we found a geocache.

Large ammo can geocache container on side of tree
in someone's yard.

Storm coming in as we got back to the lodge Saturday night.

Deer mounts at the hunting lodge we were staying at.

A state record.

Coffee table with Bass mounts.

Mounted turkey

Our room was to the right.

A geocache just off the driveway to the lodge.

A couple we met that were staying at the lodge for
a family reunion.  They are from Kearney and he used to
teach at CCC and knew Everett.

It was a real bed and breakfast.

There are two rooms upstairs.

Two or three rooms downstairs and another common room

More deer mounts down stairs.

More signs at Niobrara State Park.

Another Nebraska Game and Parks rubbing site.
And again we didn't have the page or a pencil to do the rubbing
for the contest.

Walk bridge across the Niobrara just below the park.

Lots more geocaches along the trails.

This set of stairs was more like a ladder.

Found another one in a cedar tree.

The mayflies were thick along the river.
Mary didn't appreciate them landing on her.

Bench to sit and rest along the river trail.

Fake sprinkler head geocache.

Mary finally spotted this one up in a tree.

A reconstruction of an eagles nest.

Lots of scenic views at the park.

A geocache named Peter.

A geocoin we found in a cache.

Log sheet for the picnic.

Geocaching picnic group.

A bell collection we found on the way home.

The owner came out and told us all about it.
